about
My artwork is primarily concerned with nature and the environment. Although I have always drawn and painted from early childhood,  I trained originally in agriculture and nutrition and worked as a nutritionist in  England, Sudan and Indonesia.  I qualified later as a science teacher  and since then have worked in secondary schools in Australia, Japan and England. On retirement from school teaching I have had more time to pursue my love of painting and  I gained a fine art degree at the University of Creative Arts in Farnham. I now work in my studio on our small cattle and sheep farm in West Sussex.

I am particularly interested in the form, pattern and colour of the natural world. I have looked at the mathematics underpinning the structure of natural forms in particular the spiral formation found in shells, pinecones and ammonites. I have a collection of fossils and this inspired a series of prints and drawings of trilobites. Often a mathematical grid forms part of the image.

I am a keen gardener and so my flowers often appear in my paintings. I work in watercolour and in acrylic and I am experimenting with cut paper and card and collage work. I particularly like to use layers in the painting so that a story can emerge.

I have exhibited regularly and my paintings are in many private collections. I am a member of Borderlands Artists' Consortium and Catalyst - Women, Art and Science. I still work with children as a field teacher at local nature reserves and have conducted art workshops in schools, with youth groups, at exhibitions and at field centres.
